IKEDC Rebranding: A Step in the Light Direction

Barely two years after the Federal government handed over the defunct Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), to NEDC/KEPCO Consortium under the privatization scheme, Ikeja Electric (IE) has embarked on a commendable operation to rebrand and reinvigorate its image. This is to better position it in the Electricity distribution market.

NEW And old ikedc

Ikeja Electricity distribution which is arguably Nigeria’s largest power distribution network is on a mission to redefine customer experience and be the provider of choice wherever energy is consumed. This company has opted for an image and look that best captures its objectives and goals.

The simplistic and very attractive logo was designed with a blend of three colours-Red, Yellow and Black. The name of the company, written in small caps (ie) had the black font colour with the first letter having a bulb-like shape on the head, which is a reflection of the company’s sole duty, power distribution. The single bolt/lightning shape on the previous logo has been recreated into multiple circular forms surrounding the Name of the company.

This offline and online rebranding has also led to the restructuring and redesigning of its website into a more interactive and user friendly platform. There has also been an upgrade in the ways consumers pay their bills via the online platforms.

Electricity is a core issue in a large country like Nigeria which has a population of over 180 million and a step from IKEDC in repositioning itself to meet their customers’ demands is quite commendable.

Ikeja Electric which also has an estimated customer population of 657,444 spread across business units in Lagos state, came into existence on the 1st of November, 2013.
